‘All human beings are born free and equal’: World observes Human Rights Day
The International Day of Human Rights is being observed today across the world. 2018 is the 70th anniversary of the Universal Human Rights Declaration which was proclaimed by the United Nations on this day in 1948.

The document was drafted by various prominent individuals with legal and cultural backgrounds from around the world, including Pakistani diplomat Begum Shaista Ikramullah, who championed the Article 6 on equal rights in marriage.
People are speaking out against human rights violations in various parts of the globe and asking for measures to guarantee every individual their due rights.
On occasion, Punjab Minister for Human Rights Ejaz Alam Augustine said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government is committed to eliminating violence against women and guaranteeing rights of individuals.
He said that the ruling government has also decided to introduce Human Rights as a subject in various educational institutions across the province. He said a provincial taskforce on human rights is working on safeguarding people’s rights.
