Protecting Environment: KP Government Gets Tough With Errant Tourists

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government along with local authorities have started acting out against tourists for littering. The development comes in as part of the provincial government`s plan to enhance tourism in the region.

As per reports multiple tourists and restaurants have been fined for littering in Galiyat areas. It is pertained to mention here that Galiyat remains the most popular tourist attraction in the north including Murree, Patriata, Nathia Gali, Ayubia and others. The areas in question are under the jurisdiction of Galiyat Development Authority.

The official twitter handle of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf mentioned the respective fines imposed.

“KP Government fined 23 hotels, 18 restaurants, 16 cabins, 6 resident houses and 11 tourists for littering & sanitation offenses in Galiyat. Over 1,43,000/- rupees of fine collected. The drive against the offenders will spread and continue across KP. Become a responsible citizen, “the tweet added.

Although the Galiyat Authorities have been persistent in environmentalist measures in said areas, the backing of the provincial government has lead to increase awareness regarding the issue at hand.

Many took to twitter appreciating the official stance of imposing fines upon littering, tourists were of the view that such measures need to be taken across the board in other tourist destinations including Kumrat Valley.
