NAB Officer Manhandles Shahid Khaqan During Investigation: Report

Islamabad

National Accountability Bureau (NAB)’s misbehaviour with those under investigation has hit a new low as reportedly Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior member and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was manhandled during his physical remand.

According to a report in The News by reporter Azaz Syed, the former prime minister was shouted at and reportedly manhandled during the question hour session. The incident reportedly took place at NAB Rawalpindi office.

Sources have revealed to media that the officer who manhandled Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was reportedly a petroleum expert and was part of the NAB team investigating the Liquefied Natural Gas scandal.

It has been reported that the said officer was angered on the answers of the former prime minister and manhandled him. He also threw a glass at Shahid Khaqan.

The situation was however controlled by the other officers present there. An occurrence report has been submitted before Rawalpindi NAB Director General Irfan Naeem Mangi.

Moreover, the NAB spokesman, in his comments to media has denied that the incident occurred and termed it ‘concocted, baseless and false’. He added that NAB is a professional organisation and conducts inquiries whilst ensuring the self-respect of every accused.

The incident has not been taken lightly as people have claimed that such actions are unacceptable in a democracy. A social media user opined that NAB’s actions were beyond shameful and stated that the government had an ‘astounding disdain’ for democracy.

Meanwhile, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, while talking to media, has demanded that an open trial should be held so that people can become aware of the injustice happening in the country.
