Punjab Govt To Lift Ban On Student Unions

Punjab government has decided to lift the ban on student unions in the educational institutions of the province and has given the go ahead for legislation on the matter.

According to a report in City 42, Punjab government has decided to lift the ban on student politics and student unions in educational institutions.

In this regard, the Punjab government would soon be introducing a bill in the Punjab assembly according to which the ban on student unions would be lifted.

Provincial Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir told media that the bill is currently under consideration and as soon as it was complete, it would be introduced in the assembly.

He said that student activism and politics would be enabled by following the model of international institutions. He added that student activism would however be confined to campuses.
