Man Who Attacked Nankana Sahib Gurdwara Apologises For His Action

The person who attacked Nankana Sahib gurdwara, Imran Chishti, has apologised for his act and said that he respected the Sikhs. In a video message, he said that he aplogises if his words hurt people’s sentiments.

On Friday, a number of people surrounded the Gurdwara Nankana Sahib to hold a demonstration against Sikhs, raising slogans vowing to re-name Nankana Sahib to Ghulam-e-Mustafa.

The incident generated outrage on social media with people calling on the authorities to act and arrest the culprits so the religious harmony of the area can be maintained.

Foreign Office reacted to the incident and claimed that the incident was not a communal issue. “The provincial authorities in the Punjab province have informed that there was [a] scuffle in the city of Nankana Sahib today, between two Muslim groups. The altercation happened on a minor incident at a tea-stall,” the FO spokesperson said, and added that the district administration “immediately intervened” and arrested the accused, who are now in custody.
