SC Orders FIA To Stop Investigation Into Peshawar BRT Project

The Supreme Court has stopped the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) from investigating into the alleged mismanagement and irregularities in the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project, setting aside an earlier order of Peshawar High Court (PHC).

The apex court issued the orders while hearing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government’s petition against a PHC order from last year in which it directed the FIA to conduct an inquiry into the way the project was handled.
The SC asked for details of the total cost and information regarding the completion of the project.

“What is the initial cost of the BRT? What was the initial date for the completion of the project? When will it be finished?” Justice Bandial asked.

The counsel representing the KP government alleged that the PHC had issued its verdict without any reasoning.

The SC has stopped the FIA from investigating the project. However, the KP government told the court that the new date for the completion of the Peshawar BRT is July 31 of this year.
