‘Lockdown No Solution’, Reiterates PM While Warning Coronavirus Will Peak In July

Prime Minister Imran Khan, while addressing the nation today, said that the spread of Covid-19 in Pakistan was expected to peak at the end of July or the start of August, but reiterated that a lockdown was not a solution to the pandemic.

He said that we already know that the virus spreads until it peaks before the curve begins to flatten. Urging the nation to take safety precautions, he said: “If we take precautionary measures, we can manage the pandemic.”

The prime minister also said that the entire world had understood by now that lockdowns are not a solution. He said that although the imposition of lockdown would slow down the spread of the virus, Pakistan is a poor country and therefore there was no choice but to reopen the country.

He said that even though the USA had the highest number of coronavirus cases and deaths, they had decided to reopen the country with SOPs.

The prime minister said that many people thought of the coronavirus as being like the common flu and were, therefore, refusing to follow SOPs. He urged the people to follow SOPs and, especially, to wear masks as “masks can prevent the spread by up to 50 percent”.

He concluded his sentence with the remarks that only the observation of precautionary measures could help us defeat the pandemic.
