Court Directs PTA To Unblock PUBG ‘Immediately’
Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to unblock famous online game Unknown Battle Ground (PUBG) immediately. The authority had released a press statement on Thursday, saying that the online game would remain ‘blocked’.
However, Justice Aamer Farooq, while announcing the verdict of the petition filed against PTA’s decision to ban PUBG in the country, directed the authority unblock the game immediately and explain the reasoning behind banning the game in the first place.
The court also ordered the authority take all the concerned stakeholders on board while banning something in the future.
The verdict of the case was reserved on July 14 and the petition was filed jointly by PUBG players and a local game-control company.
On Thursday, PTA said that the ban it imposed on PUBG will remain in place. The authority had asked the game developers to share data about PUBG sessions, its users in Pakistan and regulatory measures, but no response has been received yet.
Press Release: PTA has decided that online game Players' Unknown Battle Ground (PUBG) remains blocked. The decision has been made by the Authority after a detailed hearing conducted in PTA on July 9 on the directions of the Lahore High Court.
