Peshawar BRT Bus Catches Fire Once Again

A metro bus of the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) caught fire last night near Phase VI of Hayatabad, Peshawar.

This is the second time in a week when a metro bus of the newly-launched BRT project went up in flames. Last Wednesday, a bus burst into flames when a fire broke out on its roof. The fire was contained within no time and no loss of life was reported.

This time, the fire started in the bus while it was plying on a route near Hayatabad’s Phase VI area. Though the cause of the fire hasn’t been ascertained yet, all passengers were rescued immediately, reported Samaa.

According to Rescue 1122, its workers had reached the spot and extinguished the fire.

The bus rapid transit system was inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan on Aug 14 after multiply delays in the project. At least 128 buses ply the 27-kilometre BRT track. They stop at 30 stations across the city.
